Preparing for an interview

We have been provided with the interactive assignment of conducting an interview with a team mate. I have a good idea of the questions I want to ask, but I must admit, I've been all over the place this week due to having midterms in both of my graduate classes. I'm actually excited to conduct an interview. The tips given by Justin Meise have been a great help with preparing for when I get interviewed. One tip that I have for preparing for this assignment is referring back to your favorite radio host or TV personality. My inspiration comes from Angie Martinez. I have a long commute to and from work so I am mostly tuned into Power 105.1. In my opinion she conducts the best interviews on that station and definitely exemplifies all of Meise's rules for a great interview.

Is there anyone you will draw your inspiration from for this assignment?

  1. I am going to try and channel my inner Anderson Cooper. He always is prepared with good questions but where he seems to really shine is taking the answers that are given and using those to springboard into another series of questions.

  3. I admire journalists like Christianne Amanpour, Katie Couric, and Barbara Starr. I have worked with all three as a public affairs office and found them to be tough and direct with their questions. When being interviewed by any of these three, you have to be prepared, you must not engage in BS, and you can count on them to be fair.

By the way, Lorrie, nice job ending your blog post with a question. This invites readers to respond and engage in dialog on your blog.

    1. Yi, I cannot even imagine being interviewed by Amanpour. I mean she knows everything going on in the world right?! I love her. I love watching her, and if I were interviewed by her my head would be saying "Girrrl, you have MADE it" but my mouth would be saying "Buh buh buh".

  4. I admire journalists like Wolf Blitzer, Christianne Amanpour, Katie Couric and Barbara Starr. I have worked with all four and found that they exemplify professionalism in reporting. They are intelligent, they do their homework, they are tough, direct, questioners (you cannot BS them), and they are fair and accurate in their reporting.

By the way, Lorrie, nice job ending your post with a question. This invites comments and interaction on your blog.

  5. What a great idea Lorrie! Sometimes reading about interviewing tips is just not enough so being able to learn best practices from a role model is very useful. Personally I think I am going to use Andrea Cumbo as my reference. She is a wonderful journalist and I like that she is very detailed in the interviews I have watched and read.

  6. What about Elvis Duran, Lorrie? He is straight to the point, but knows how to keep a sense of humor while interviewing.
